Mordecai Moon

Last Halloween I entered a writing contest. The rules were >100 words and had to include “Witch”, “Spider”, and “Moon” in the entry.

Mordecai Moon

by Kathryn Rammell

Mordecai Moon sat perched in the sky,

waxing and waiting for Hallow’s Eve to roll by.

Doorsteps were haunted, dinner now sweets.

Kids transformed into monsters to pick up their treats.

But one group of teens thought ill of the night

and terrorized children, leaving more than just frights.

Until one bold ghost stood up to the bunch

and gave them a scare worth more than a punch.

Vampires, witches and spiders take note

from the clever pranks of this devilish ghost.

Mordecai Moon just laughed from his throne

and begged the brave child to leave them alone.
