Hello there!*waves* I’m Kathryn. It’s so nice to meet you 🙂
My background with writing and illustrating started with my BA in Art History. Through art history I was able to combine my appreciation of art and writing. I enjoyed sitting in lectures studying beautiful images and learning about their stories, but something was missing.
My attention shifted from galleries to picture books after working at the university library where I found myself in the kid lit section far more often than my boss would have preferred. My final year of undergrad I took a college course on children’s literature and knew I had to be a part of the imaginative community.
After graduating from college in 2012 I taught art classes to both adults and children. I worked at the art studio until I had my daughter in 2015. In spring of 2016 I made the leap of joining SCBWI.
Despite a busy year of moving to a new state for my husband’s job and adding a son to our family, as soon as I joined SCBWI I dove with full force into learning all I could about what it takes to create picture books.
When I’m not dancing in the kitchen with my two-year-old or kissing the chubby cheeks of my four-month-old I am working on my project. When the kids go down for naps the sketchbook comes out! You can always find us at the library or local bookstores. We close each day with a little bit (or a lot) of bedtime reading.
I am excited to learn all that I can so that I might contribute beautiful words and illustrations to this beautiful life. Thank you for stopping by!
